1903 Neoclassical Union Springs AL - $700k

alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421468622049777346" />

Uh oh. Someone got a little too "creative" on the exterior colors -- but restoring the right amount of dignity to this stately home shouldn't take too much time or money. Near Montogomery AL -- which is a good thing?!?! Here's what they say: "Unbelievable entryway with winding staircase and stained glass focal point. Sparkling chandeliers and imposing columned mantels both inside and out! Eight decorative mantels throughout living and sleeping areas. Large spacious bedrooms with 12-foot ceilings. Deep South "Gone with the Wind" feel; they don't make them like this anymore. Butler's pantry, bay window in formal dining area with impressive columned fireplace mantel. 4 bedrooms with additional room with extensive shelving could be downstairs bedroom or library depending on your preference. Exercise room. Old Victorian wrought iron fencing; 2 balconies; wraparound columned porch; 2 private porches; separate 2-car garage. Access to cable and fiber-optic high speed internet. So many rooms to use as you like!" With a little spit and polish and a tad of good taste this could be quite a handsome home.

Historic Chennault Plantation 1853 - Washington Georgia

OMG at $692k for a house where " the last know location of the Confederate Gold, it was here in May 1865 the gold vanished never to be found" -- wow. Of course it is listed as "as is" which means nail your checkbook to the door and keep shoveling the cash into your account. But still! "The home stands proud amid towering oaks with double galleries offering superb views of the gentle rolling countryside and the sounds of the whippoorwill. the main level consist of formal parlor, formal dinning, music room, guest bedroom wing with bath, keeping room, butlers pantry, detached country kitchen with Aga stove, wine cellar and sitting porch overlooking raised garden beds. There is a wide center hall up and down with double pine doors leading to the lower back screened porch. Upstairs are four spacious bedrooms with fireplaces and two paths. A total of eight(8) fireplaces grace the home. Recently renovated this is a True Treasure!"

I'm glad I've finally figured out how to embed a link in these posts because I'm sure one of you will want to call and snap this beauty up. 6 bedrooms 4.5 baths make t almost cozy. Looks like a large modern kitchen. Love the views and tree-lined drive. Life as it should be lived -- or at least as how I'd fantasize living it. Happy New Year!

Handsome Manor Home in Catonsville

Be still my heart. I've driven around the Oak Forest area of Catonsville and don't think I've seen this one. Looks like late 19th century/early 20th century. Combo Shingle/Greek Revival style? 2.5 acres nice landscaping say that it overlooks the Patapsco Valley. 7 bedrooms. Almost 7,000 square feet. 8 fireplaces! $1,200,000. A little spendy but might have to do a drive by on this one.

1795 Rescued Gem on 16.9 Acres

It's known as Woodfarm and It's got no kitchen, no septic, no electricity, and no running water -- no problem! What it DOES have is tons of period architectural integrity and great interior details PLUS acerage and a POND. "All" it needs is some landscaping -- boxwoods, magnolias, maybe a parterre and the addition of a kitchen/laundry and master suite. I'm thinking that you'd do the additions as "hyphens". Kitchen/laundry off the dining room and the master suite hypen off the living room. While the base price isn't cheap at $450k it might be able to be completed for under $1 million total. What do you think?

Potential on the Patapsco

Set up high on the banks of the Patapsco River, this 1806 millworker's cottage is part of a complex of buildings known as Granite Hill. The Oella Company has been rehabbing a number of other cottages but hasn't got around to this one yet -- so a purchaser could totally customize it to their specifications. In addition to being in rough but ready condition to dream, this house has a number of other advantages including being a single home rather than attached and being situated at the end of the row which allows for an addition that could totally take advantage of a spectacular view of river and woods. Hope someone with a good design sense and a few bucks to do it right gets a hold of this one.
